Sanostro started in 2011 with the belief that investors’ risk management must not be expensive and that above-standard market intelligence is already available within some of the leading quantitative investment firms. Since then we have partnered up with selected quant funds to deliver a cost-efficient downside risk management solution to institutional investors.
Sanostro AG is regulated by VQF, one of several self-regulatory organizations (SRO) in Switzerland that are overseen by FINMA, the Swiss regulatory authority.
All Partners come from an investment, risk management or trading background and have collectively more than 70 years of experience in the hedge fund industry.
Wolfgang Batt is a Founding Partner at Sanostro. He spent more than a decade in the financial industry and advised institutional investors. He started his career at a Munich based venture capital firm and thereafter joined a privately owned investment company focusing on quantitative trading strategies. Wolfgang also worked several years for Alternative & Quantitative Investments at UBS. He studied Economics and Law at Freiburg and Munich University and holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Johannes Minho Roth is a Founding Partner at Sanostro, and has more than 16 years experience in the industry. He spent his first 7 years of his career in Germany, where he made markets in equities and ran proprietary trading strategies for Baader Bank AG from 1999-2006. He started FiveT Capital Holding AG and FiveT Capital AG in Switzerland from scratch in 2006 and ran FiveT’s flagship long/short equity fund until 2011. Minho holds a Dipl. Oec. from Hohenheim University, Stuttgart.
Godefroy Schrago is a Founding Partner at Sanostro, with more than 12 years experience in the industry. He started his career with Goldman Sachs in Frankfurt in 2004, initially involved as an analyst in rescue financing transactions for distressed corporates and then moved to London to work on debt transactions for large European clients. At the end of 2007, he moved back to Switzerland to join FiveT Capital AG, where he analysed special situations and managed an option portfolio as well as a long/short equity portfolio. Godefroy holds a Lic. Oec. from the University of St. Gallen, HSG.
Dr. Walter Brägger is a Partner at Sanostro. He started his career at SBC Warburg in 1996, before joining UBS Investment Bank, where he was responsible for designing and delivering Financial Market Education to UBS employees and clients. He also worked as the global head and managing director of the UBS Business University’s cross-divisional Finance & Risk faculty. Walter holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Basel, Switzerland.
Vincent Couson is a Partner at Sanostro. He was a senior member of the UBS Strategic Investment Advisory team, developing tailored investment and risk management solutions for institutional clients. Before Vincent was part of the asset allocation team and worked as portfolio manager for UBS Global Asset Management in Zurich, Chicago and London. He holds a Masters in Finance & Business Administration from the University of Zurich, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) as well as a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
Nick Yanakiev joined Sanostro Institutional Investor, a joint venture between Euromoney Institutional Investor and Sanostro, as a Senior Sales Manager. He previously worked for a leading investment analytics provider and JP Morgan’s metals sales team, among others. He holds a degree in International Studies and Economics at the University of Warwick, UK.
Dr. Nikolas Breitkopf is a Partner at Sanostro, and has more than 10 years of experience in the industry. In addition to his academic career (he is working on his habilitation treatise), he has been developing quantitative futures trading systems for a privately owned company. He also developed a fully automated, algorithm-based order execution system. Nikolas holds a Masters and a PhD in Business from the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, where he still lectures in quantitative finance.
Marcus Briese joined Sanostro in August 2012 and has more than 6 years of experience in the financial industry. Prior to joining Sanostro, he worked for FiveT Capital AG in analysis and sales related positions. He holds a degree in Corporate Management and Economics from the Zeppelin University, Germany.
Hannes Wetscher joined Sanostro in July 2015 and has 18 years of experience in private equity and alternative investments. He managed a venture capital financed biotech company and a private equity financed medtech company and was also CFO of a venture fund working with L-Bank for more than 7 years. He is board member of a privately owned investment company focusing on quantitative trading strategies since 10 years. Hannes holds a Lic. Oec. from the University of St. Gallen, HSG.
Rodrigue Schrago is a senior technology advisor at Sanostro. With more than 20 years IT experience he is a passionate IT architect and innovator. The orchestration of business and IT architecture drives his work since 15 years. He has spent the last 10 years in different IT architecture leading positions in the financial industry at Axa Winterthur, Swiss Life and Avaloq, managing complex application landscapes but also large scale product development for core banking. Rodrigue holds a Dipl. Inf. from ETH Zurich.
Ameer Abdulsalam joined Sanostro in early 2016 and currently leads Sanostro’s Information Technology projects. He brings 4 years of research and application experience in various areas of Computer Science, a broad skillset and a problem solving mind-set driven by a passion for optimizing systems and processes. Ameer holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master’s in Informatics from the Technical University of Munich.

Our goal is not to sell yet another investment product. We want to help our clients with investments they already have. Our solution allows our clients to better manage the downside from existing risk exposure, thereby improving their overall portfolio.
